The Tree With The Lights In It

everywhere I see
the tree with the lights in it
forever transformed

first in the maples
then in the street-side puddles
today tulips glow

I see it and turn
stop to consider a leaf
to feel the fabric of concrete
the mountains in the sidewalk
compelled and then bound to this moment
to look away would be sacrilege
to turn, walk, is denial
truth is present here

my heartbeat quickens
my dry mouth is opened, though
I do not have words

my face has gone numb
my body is unmoving
ripples of heat, electric nerve force
extend beyond my body, linking us here
me, my perfect spirit unclouded
eternally embracing
this, the face of God
